出生於倫敦的莉莉艾倫，父親是英國著名喜劇演員凱茲艾倫(Keith Allen)，
從小聽著龐克與雷鬼音樂長大的莉莉，在朋友眼中一直是個怪怪才女，
共計換過十三所學校，之後選擇在十五歲離開校園、自我進修。
有別於時下談情說愛的流行音樂，喜歡挑戰權威的莉莉，把她自身對前男友分手後求和的「恥笑」，
創作出單曲《smile(笑笑)》，僅靠網路下載就登上全英單曲榜第13 名，
實體發行後順利空降單曲榜冠軍，更獲選為滾石雜誌2006年十大單曲。
